three mud dogs

This morning Amy, Rev and I took Bradley, Kingsley and Oscar to Cameron Park. Thanks to King, no one went thirsty. Kingsley carried a doggie backpack with two water bladders. We left from Lovers' Leap, hiked through the bamboo forest, ran through a muddy creek and collapsed under a shade tree.

marathon time

Calling all Carries, Charlottes, Mirandas and Samanthas! With only one week until Sex in the City the movie comes out, I'm getting ready by watching the entire show all over again. I have never watched the final episode because I didn't want the show to ever end, but maybe I will. This weekend I started with the first season so before next weekend I'll have watched all six. One down, five to go. I love how the show never gets old, even though they have landlines rather than cell phones.

verdict:

I'm headed north to North Dakota! I am excited and nervous about law school. My last day of work is Friday, August 1st. The movers leave the following Wednesday and so will I. Rev is going to make the road trip with me, then fly back home. Orientation for school begins August 19th. I hope to have time to unpack, change my residency status and all that entails and paint my room before school begins.

Today I talked to the university to see what sort of shots and physical assessments needed to be done prior to the first day of school and I completed my FAFSA application. Because I am going to the dual JD/MBA, I need to complete my MBA application. This will be easy, just takes time.

dog as my copilot

We love it when the Russells go out of town around here because that means slumber parties with Oscar. Saturday Oscar played so hard that by dinner time he could not keep his eyes open. Sunday he was still worn out. He is the lapdog B wishes he could be. Oscar is so compliant and even took me on a bike ride. He is also obediant. He knows "no", "sit" and "potty". I have never seen a dog potty on command like Oscar. He'll go right on the pavement. Just say potty and wherever he is, he'll drop trowel. Here are some pics from the weekend-o-fun.

how to be a rock star

This new guy at work came up to me and said. . .

This guy just drove up in a Range Rover and went to the antique store across the street. He totally looked like a meth-head. He was tall, skinny and had crazy hair and goatee.

. . .

So I asked if the rover was black. Sure was. I explained he wasn't a meth-head. He was a rock star, a christian rock star. David Crowder.

PS, The David Crowder Band plays at UBC where I go church.
PPS, The Ranger Rover is my dream car.

pepper's handbag

I am beyond obsessed. I have spent the entire morning searching for the handbag that Gwyneth Paltrow wore in Iron Man. Roache and I walked out of the movie and within 30 seconds we'd commented on the bag. I know I put my Economic Stimulus check straight into savings, but it sure would help me towards a fancy new bag. Plus, doesn't our president want us to spend the money? The blogs and forums are convinced the handbag is a Marc Jacobs from Spring 2007.

On a side note, the movie is cheesy but quite entertaining. Highly recommend, if only to see the handbag and Gwyneth with red hair, wearing great clothes.

Monday morning I finally spilled the beans at work and let them in on my law school plan. It went well and everyone is excited for me. Now I just have to take the plunge and leave come August first, but the thought of that makes me nauseous. My first six years here I thought Waco and Texas were major armpits, but somehow the two have won me over and for the last two years I have become hard pressed to name a place I'd rather live. In Waco I have:
  • I have a roommate who is like family
  • a dog I call my own but for whom I don't have to buy dog food
  • a road and mountain bike I can ride to the park or to a country road easily from my back door
  • a kick-a job and coworkers
  • money to spend after bills have been paid and savings deposited
  • No commute or traffic
I am crazy for choosing to leave. You'd think after living in seven cities and loving each of them that this decision wouldn't be difficult because I have eventually fallen in love with each place I have lived. Since we moved growing up, I don't want to move a lot in my adult life. I want to settle down and stick in one place. I thought Waco was that place, but it's not, so here I go.

back from the desert

I flew back Saturday from El Paso with eagerness and sadness. In a way I feel refreshed with clarity while another part of me is wailing with emptiness because of my clarity.

I am slated to be the next president of the Waco chapter (for the insurance association I was meeting with in El Paso) come July. However this will not happen because I am 95% positive that law school will be my next step and has me leaving Waco in August. I have grown to love Waco and will always look back on my time here fondly, but it is time for me to go.

My boss knew I was applying to law school because I needed a killer recommendation from him, but no one else in my office has been told. I plan on giving my boss the go-ahead to start looking for my replacement and letting my team know my plan, too.

Roache just keeps saying "you have so much stuff". Indeed, when I move I am always amazed with my multitude of possessions.
