memorial day weekend with jacob

I flew to Denver to be with Jacob this weekend. He moved there in March when he got promoted at work. He upgraded to a nice new apartment and wanted yours truly's help fixin' it up. I flew in on Friday, got a tour of Denver, and dined at an Indian restaurant (my favorite ethnic food). Saturday we woke up early and shopped until we dropped. Then we came home and started assembling and hanging. Saturday night we got dolled up and went out for sushi and then out with some of Jacob's friends in an area known as "Lo-Do" (Lower Downtown). Sunday we did more shopping and assymbling. Somewhere in there I got two new pairs of shoes. Sunday night we ate Vietnamese and I discovered a new obsession- pho. That night stayed in and watched Entourage. Sunday we went out for brunch and then it was off to the airport for me. I read law all the way home.

Drum roll, please. . . I went on a 30 mile road biking trek this morning at 6 am with my dad! This was the first time on my bicycle since law school began last August. It was a brisk and windy 39 degrees and I was in my winter attire (leggings, arm warmers, wind jacket, full length gloves, and toe warmers. If I could have found my helmet hat I would have worn that, too.) Here is a picture of Roache and me on our first bike ride together in the Texas winter of 2007. Interesting how I am wearing the same thing in the North Dakota spring 2009.

Also, I am going to plant my garden today. It won't be as big and diverse as last year's garden, but it has the basics- cilantro, two tomatoe varieties, and zuccini squash. I need to include some basil, too!
Summer school starts tomorrow :( I am taking two classes for a total of six hours. Of course, my first class is at 7:45 am and my second class is at 6:00 pm.

I have not run (or gone to the gym) since March. This is by far the longest I have ever gone not working out- thank you law school. Now I am paying for it. I started exercising on Monday and now I am in so much pain I can't walk without cringing. I can go up the stairs, but going down is another story. It reminds me of the first mile I ran for the Presidential Fitness award. The day after running that first mile, I could not walk and had to scoot down the stairs on my rump. Flash forward twenty years. After running two measly miles, I have to grip the handrail and go down the stairs sideways. I also walk like an eighty year old woman who is unable to bend her legs when she walks. I hobble every where I go. I even use the "oh shiz" bar to get in and out of my car. I am taking ibprophen tomorrow. And if that does not work, I am investing in a stair lift.
Apologies for the hiatus. The semester is over and I am finally able to catch my breath. I am taking summer school and it starts next Monday. Until then, I am determined to take it easy and catch up on moi time!
I have made some really great friends this year and am going to miss them this summer. We have spent way too many hours together learning the law, when we would much rather be discussing Hollywood gossip. Our last final was Friday morning. We immediately met up afterward for what we started calling "GF in GF" (Girlfriends in Grand Forks- patent pending). We went to lunch, got manicures and pedicures, and shopped till we dropped. After a quick siesta to recharge our batteries, we met up again for drinks and appetizers at the Toasted Frog. Then we connected with other law school collegues for some bar hopping.
