In our effort to make friends (plus we love to cook), we've been hosting dinners and inviting friends over on Saturday nights. Last Saturday we invited friends with kids over. It was our first time to have kids in the house and backyard. I'd never thought of hanging anything except clothes on our clothesline. The parents seemed to enjoy the sangrias, mojitos, and home-brew.

Southeastern Minnesota is surrounded by water. Our home is a couple blocks away from two lakes and a mile from the Mississippi River. The city lets you rent kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards on the lakes. We also like to take Jane swimming at a beach on the river.
A few weeks ago, someone was selling a boat on an awful Facebook page called "Stuff for Sale Winona" (that page deserves an entire blogpost itself). I sent the link to Caylan and he took my cue and started researching boats. The stars aligned and a boat that was his same age appeared the week of his 30th birthday.
We bought the boat from a guy who needed cash fast. It is a 1983 speedboat named Sparky. It has a fancy paint job: blue sparkles that fade to silver sparkles. It has a 175 horse power engine that is bigger than me. I am told that boat enthusiasts call this engine the "tower of power." This boat looks like a 1980s Chevy Camaro on water. When we pull up to load it into the water, men comment on the size of our engine.
When we first took Jane out on the water she was scared. Now that she has a life vest and is more fashionable, she seems to like it more.
We like to take the boat out after work and imbibe.
We got fishing licenses. I hadn't fished since I was 7 and it was a lot more fun then. If I am going to sit idle, I prefer to read. Caylan likes fishing, even though he doesn't catch much.
We are also learning to waterski. Here is a video of my first time dropping a ski and slaloming.
