blogging my way through this smoggy world

totally busted

Casa Watt is all a buzz with backpacking banter, packing and dehydrating fruits and making jerky. Bradley has been warned that if he tastes an item from the counter we will make dog jerky and not think twice about it. ...and we wonder why he's depressed.

During the packing stage this evening I was instructing what to bring for toiletry items and how I like to use a yellow bandanna to wipe my pee (I attach it to the outside of my pack and let the sun sanitize it.)

I thought I had been clear- but here's what I found while inspecting:
Notice the two Chanel foundations in the middle (two shades for as her skin transitions in the sun.)Rather than a bandanna she is using a piece of a Diane Von Furstenberg dress that is now a shirt.

This is going to be a great trip.

where's waldo?

Check out these pictures and tell me where my water hose/bladder is coming from? I think these pictures prove I'm not crazy and that the hose is coming from the compartment/lid/brain of the backpack. Mother, can you please look and see if you find a platypus that is like 12 X 14 and about 1.2 liters?

boy do i feel loved

I received a hand written note in the mail from one of my amazon buyers thanking me for sending the book so promptly and noting what great condition the book was in.

. . .I want to send a copy of this letter to my disgruntled buyer!

space cadet

Oh how I used to get so mad when my mother would call me a space cadet. I mean who calls their only daughter a ditz? My comeback was that astronauts were brains. But I have come to realize I really am a space cadet. This summer I am losing my mind. No doubt, stress has something to do with it. It's really annoying that I can't find anything. Items I have lost:

1. headphones- I vaguely remember packing these, but refuse to unpack boxes
2. sleeping bag- how do you lose a sleeping bag? It's in a large laundry bag looking sac and I'm pretty sure I used it in November
3. wallet- but only for 36 hours (got lots of free meals when I would open my purse and remember I couldn't find my wallet)
4. a cd- later found in a grocery bag that I had forgotten to unload
5. hydration system for my backpack. I could have sworn I had a special platypus bladder that fit in the "brain" of my osprey, but of course I can't find it and no one knows what I'm talking about (my dad or the local mountain shop)
6. at this time I can't remember anything else I've lost, but I'm sure there's more

More on stress: The summer before the Faircloths moved from Mississippi to North Dakota I threw up on a daily basis. Well that little ritual has started again, great...

hundred dollar bills, y'all

Amazon makes payments once a month. I have made $107 easy bucks since I started getting rid of my books. I have sold almost all of them. I am taking the unsold ones off amazon and donating them to the library, today.

I highly recommend selling books on amazon. I have only had one bad buyer and I'm convinced he's coo-coo ... I mean he did buy a codependency self help book! But other than that, all of my buyers have been super.

remember to copyright your material

B-rad celebrated his 5th birthday on Wednesday. Rev summed it up well on her blog. . . here's how it went.

happy freaking birthday, man.

Today is bradley's fifth birthday. given the life-expectancy handicap of great danes, we give him 12 human years
for every dog year. this puts him at 60, just a few years away from joining aarp. we decided to make him some very special cupcakes, chocolate with peanut butter frosting, and so we made them with care, and set them to cool. and it is on this day that we finally realized why bradley is always depressed. he has a way of ruining everything. today he ruined his birthday by swiping four cupcakes off of the counter. so instead of bradley getting a big cupcake with frosting, he has four frostless cupcakes with spiderman wrapper in his stomach. here, a detailed photographic depiction of this evening's events.

happy birthday, brad, the biggest one is in the middle and it's for you! interesting. nine on the plate, only three on the cooling rack. four cupcakes are missing.

the evidence.

how bradley spent the rest of his birthday.

overachiever

My goal for the weekend was to pack one moving box. I plan to pack a little at a time so as to not be rushed at the end. I was such an overachiever on Saturday- I packed six boxes. Then I went back to work to get more boxes and packed three more today. So far I have packed platters, china, glassware, etc. Rev is so excited about her newly found cabinet space in the kitchen. Rude.

On Saturday Rev and I also road our bikes to the community farm, World Hunger Relief, to buy some veggies and eggs. It was supposed to be an hour and a half trip, but with twenty-five mph winds, it ended up being a brutal four hour trip. We were tired, drained and moody so the only thing that could cheer us up was Bush's fried chicken, fried okra, sweet rolls and sweet tea. The chicken was so fresh, we were having grease fires in our mouths with every bite. So good.

We are also planning a girls' week long backpacking trip along the Colorado Trail. Rev has never backpacked, much less slept overnight in a tent. I'm not expecting spectacular expedition behavior, but I know we'll have a blast. Since we'll be carrying packs and hiking five straight days we'll be training the next three weeks. We ran to the gym today and did squats, dead lifts, and a bunch of other stuff that made me want to cry for my mommy. I hope I can walk tomorrow.

Brag alert! I sold six more books on amazon over the weekend and my bike saddle on ebay. I have so much stuff to take to the post office that I am afraid I'll have to make two trips.

two dollar, two dollar, two dollar

I don't want to pack or move any unnecessary items, so I am selling all the stuff I don't need. I have posted a used bike saddle on ebay and books on amazon. In just one day I had three books get purchased, so it was off to the post office for me. Sure I don't make a lot of money on the books, but I figure $5 is better than nothing.

I can't believe I only have two months left in Waco. I am trying to squeeze in as much as I can before August 1st. Rev and I are going to the artsy town of Marfa, TX the weekend of July 4th. We might even take Brad. We're also trying to figure out a time to go to Colorado, too. I am going to San Diego for work on June 29th for a couple of days. Must not forget to schedule time for packing sometime in between the fun summer travels. I am interviewing a candidate for my replacement later this week. I hope I like her. She's made it past two interviews.
