blogging my way through this smoggy world

buzzy halloween!

Here's Aidan, Jack's 22 month old nephew. The Faircloths had only 1 set of trick-or-treaters, and they came at 9 pm. I am glad we had some candy, and I hope we were their last stop.

An Open Memo to Obama: Get a Flu Shot

To: POTUS
From: Taxpayers
Re: Your Decision Not to Get Vaccinated for H1N1

We understand that your daughters have just received H1N1 immunizations, but that you have decided not to get one yourself. As many children and pregnant women are still waiting for shots, you have chosen not to use the power of your office to ensure that you receive special treatment.

Viruses_and_seal

Brilliant.

What else are you going to do to avoid special treatment? Live in a two-bedroom apartment and protect yourself with a can of pepper spray?

As the president of the United States of America, your time is at a premium. We, the taxpayers, realize that. If we were going to get jealous of you getting a flu shot, we probably would have gotten upset about the fact that you have your own personal 747. And then there’s the helicopter that lifts off from your lawn.

Look, we elected you. We want you at your best. The last thing you need while you are trying to navigate Afghanistan and Iraq is a virus that will give you, according to the federal government, "fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, and possibly vomiting or diarrhea."

And then there's health-care reform. That’s pretty complicated. You’ll need to be able to focus. Is it a good idea to reform health care while you’re rolling around in a comforter on the bathroom floor moaning in agony? You’ll end up sacrificing everything to get America full coverage for lotion-infused facial tissue.

Now, we understand your concerns. Millions of voters can’t get access to the vaccine, and you’re a politician who’s going to be up for re-election before you know it. You want votes. Okay, that’s fine. Kiss babies for votes. Trade favors for votes. Grovel for votes. But don’t have vomiting or diarrhea for votes. That’s just gross.

Get vaccinated, stay healthy, and get a good night’s sleep.

That way you’ll be ready, tomorrow morning, when we ask you what you’re doing to get more vaccine made.

memory lane

I saw a video on homecoming at Baylor and got to thinking about some of my favorite professors. In no particular order:
1) Dr. Rust in the History department (World Civilization kicked my butt)
2) Dr. T (Dr. Tiihonen) Spanish (made me start dreaming in Spanish- also, there was this frat guy who often wore a purple frat shirt. He appeared in my dreams, too.)
3) Dr. Rose, Finance (made finance fun)
4) Dr. Petty, Entrepreneurial Finance (he put Bible verses up every day on the projector)
5) Dr. Weeks, Professional Selling (he even called me at home when I didn't show up for a test)
6) And how could I forget a summer with Dr. Faircloth (loved those daily quizzes)

now i'm the sick puppy

Friday morning I started getting a tickle in my throat and by Friday night I had a deep cough and headache. Then Saturday and Sunday I was averaging 22 hours a sleep a day. I have cried my little eyes out I felt so bad. I would have gone to the doctor had it not been the weekend. In retrospect, I should have gone to the ER to get tamiflu (because now its too late), but for now I am surviving on ibuprofen, sudafed, and cough syrup. I am hoping I can get my headache under control so that I can start studying. Being sick is no fun. PS, did I mention, I have all the symptoms of h1n1. uhg, uhg.

H3N8

That's dog flu people. I am all about people getting vaccinated, and I love dogs, and support spading and neutering, but do dogs really need to be vaccinated for this? I am no vet, but maybe so if your dog goes to doggie day care or the dog park they should, but not for the common couch potato dane. Since I don't have a dog, I am curious, would you have your dog vaccinated?

it came true

Today it snowed. I was in the gym when it started. There are big windows and everyone got excited- that is, everyone but me.

On a brighter note, today is my mom's birthday. Happy 60th Mamsie!!! You look better than most 50 year olds. XOXO!

oh, shoot

Snow is in the forecast for Friday up here in Dakota Territory. The temperature have been in the low forties for about a week now, but Friday night its supposed to be in the twenties.

Good Lord. It's really not cool, being cool.

project j.a.m.

Project J.A.M. = Project Joanna and Marcy.

Joanna is a law school friend and we have decided to whip each other into shape. On Friday we did my standard routine (elliptical for 40 min and weights for 20 min.) On Saturday we did Joanna's circuit routine (elliptical for warm-up for 15, followed by jump rope for 5, push ups, sit ups, resistance band stuff and then repeat X 3). I wanted to cry it was so hard. The girl is hardcore. ...I hope we can keep it up.
