Here at the Faircloth household, we feel like we have lost a family member. Her name was Blue. Blue was our fifteen year old, '95 Ford Explorer. Until now, we were her only owner.
We got Blue when we moved to North Dakota when I was in 8th grade. (Before Blue we had a The Tank, a wood paneled, Buick Estate Wagon.) Here are a few memories of Blue:
- She is the vehicle I took my drivers' test in and passed, barely. I thought she was very hard to parallel park.
- Riding through flood water to get back to our house to pick up Missi, our cat, before we evacuated in the big flood of '97.
- A few months after buying her, the warning light came on- we were concerned and took her in...we eventually got used to this light as it came off and on for no reason for 15 more years.
- Nearly dying when she slipped on black ice and we did a 360 on HWY 287 in Colorado
- Driving to NC from ND and Mom having crick in her neck (couldn't drive), Jacob was on crutches (couldn't drive) and I wasn't old enough to drive. Dad drove the entire way.
- Driving up a ravine to get to the start of a mountain climb.
- Not being able to get it out of four wheel drive low
- The Baylor decal I put on her when I got home after my freshman year (it never came off)
- The duct tape Dad put on the grey leather that had cracked.
She was never a good car and always had problems, but we loved her and have lots of memories. We hope she goes to someone willing to put a lot of love into her...because she is going to need it.
On a funny note, a weird guy in law school is selling his '97 Explorer. He is apparently expecting a lot of interest in his. Here is his advertisement:

As I may have already contacted you, I am showing my car to anyone who is interested in buying it at 4PM this Monday in the parking lot next to the Native American Center on Princeton. Please be there on time.
Although I have not yet decided who I will sell it to, I would rather sell it to someone who is ready to make a payment without negotiating the price and can bring me a copy of the background or identification, such as a photo copy of your Driver's license, phone bill, and so on. I accept either cash or check for the payment.
