After leaving Billings we headed to a client in Lewistown, MT. As we drove in to this cowboy community, I wondered how on earth they supported a food cooperative. We found the coop down a dirt road in a unpainted grey doublewide attached to a grain elevator. The inside of the store was pleasantly surprising - with wood flooring with windows offering views of mountains on both sides. Caylan learned however that the store is closing in two weeks.
We then headed down a scenic route to Missoula. Montana is a giant state with little in between small crossroads. We learned to pull over when there was a stop because you could go hundreds of miles between gas stations. As sunset we came to Lincoln, MT. We later learned this is the home of Ted Kaczynski, the unabomber. We stopped for dinner at a gastropub and while dining at the bar we decided to stay at the attached historic hotel. The pub/hotel was very dog friendly with dogs hanging out by their owners at the bar. Jane appreciated the invitation to come inside.
The next morning we got up early and drove into Missoula to meet a college friend of mine and her husband. Megan transferred from Baylor after her sophomore year and we had not seen each other in 10 years. Facebook and blogs had kept us in touch over the years.
After breakfast we made a long drive to Portland (9 hours). We stopped in Spokane for lunch and in White Salmon, WA for dinner.
